RED

This is a video/slide show that i created for class. My theme for the video Is red since renaissance. I originally wanted to do a seasonal thing using landscapes from different paintings and scan in some leaves and flowers and what not, but as i started collecting images, i thought to my self " i don't even like landscape painting" so what was i doing? Any ways i gave up on that and turned to something i enjoy more- colour. I went with the colour red because red can mean so much and has so many different symbols to them but all of them have to do with some sort of passion whether it is love or anger. I ended up scanning in some roses, a fish ( fake) and some beads and tacks, all of which are red. I used the song "velvet revolution" by Tori Amos as it seemed a very fitting song for the colour red. This video was made on windows movie maker.
Enjoy!

My painted portrait

So here is the first of he final assignments. I chose a portrait done by Lindsay Brown whom i happened to randomly find on Google images while searching for portraits. I enjoy her style and the composition of her painting. I love the vibrant red amongst all the neutrals and the amazing colours she uses in the skin tones. I went back home and photographed myself in the same position as her model...well as close as I could get. As you can see my hands are slightly different as is my hair and the positioning of the material in the clothing...but those are minor details. I wanted to create a replica of her piece but with me in it. I realize we had the choice of changing the structure and other aspects, but i wanted to create as similar a piece as i could. This is something that i cannot do with paint...that's why I love Photoshop, it gives people like me who have a hard time replicating the ability to do so thanks to the UNDO button. There are a lot of layers in this image, so many that i started to get confused. I organized some of them but a lot of them were left unlabeled and mixed...bad idea. there are of course some differences such as the colour of the shadow under the subject which is darker in the original and the back wall looks more painterly. another difference is that I am looking up rather than down, but again, minor differences. I thought this piece turned out rather well.

words cant describe...

This is my piece for the text based assignment. I enjoyed doing this but it was also a lot of tedious work having to write the same word a million times. I began with an image that i found on the internet and started to replace things like the background image with the word background, the lady's hair with the word hair and so on. Once i had all the words in place i began adding filters, and some shadows using the burn tool and the drop shadow tool. I used some blending tool for more effects, as well as the liquefy tool. Here is my final masterpiece. Everything in this image is text...neat.

photo restoration 3: the blend

After restoring both images I blended them together. I placed the boy into the photo of his parents at the beach and added a bit of a grain filter to bend them together. I had to do this because I could not get it to blend together perfectly with lighting options. I added a satin overlay on the boy to create a shadow of his dad on him. I then added some light colours to the photograph to help blend it all together.

photo restpration 2

This is the second photo that I restored. The original one on the left had several cracks and creases and some spotting. I used the cloning tool to get rid of those. The edges had also turned an orangy brown so i cleaned those up. I also lightened the photo to make it a little brighter and "fresher" looking.

photo restoration 1

This was the first image that I restored for this assignment. The original is on the left. It has a lot of scratches and water splotches on it. To get rid of the scratches, I did a lot of cloning. I also used cloning to get rid of the edges of the water marks and then I colourized it using the hue saturation to make the colours more even. The original also had some odd colour stains on it.

safari adventure

This assignment required us to do some layer styles and text work. So i made a poster for a hypothetical safari adventure on no given date. I used the liquefy fibers to create the sky and used some filters on other parts of the image. I put some shadows on the mountain and then using the history brush i got rid of some filter layers to create a photo to poster effect. I added in a camera with the original image in its monitor because who goes on a safari adventure without a camera?

The Ugliest photo ever

if there was a contest for the ugliest photo...this would win first prize! this inclass assignment required us to Quickly find some pictures and blend them together using layer masks. this is what happened. you have a log cabin a meadow and some peppers. worst combo in the world. If only i spent more time finding better images. All i can say is GROSS!

practice run

This is my practice run for the assignment. We have to take two old photo graphs, fix them up and restore them and then merge them together. All i did here though was restore and image and added a bit of colour to it

The hungry worm

Here is my transformation. as you can see in the original image, it used to be a bright red tomato and a little green worm. now its a bright green tomato and a colourful worm. A bit of adjustments were made to create this and new layers had to be made also to create all the adjustments.

Scruffy goes to Paris

Here is another assignment. I took two images, on of the Eiffel tower and another of a shaggy dog. I extracted the dog from its image and pasted him into the second image, then i cut out the sky and added a gradient, put in a moon and added a luminosity to it. I also blurred the Eiffel tower a little so that it doesn't look as pasted together.

This is a logo that i designed for my name. I used a photograph of an anchor and traced a path around it to create just the outline of the anchor. I filled it in with a rusty wooded colour and then using the vector/pen tool i created a ribbon. Both the ribbon and the anchor are stroked using the burn option instead of the brush option. then using the burn/dodge tool i created highlights and lowlights on the ribbon and the anchor. The Anchor itself look like J's back to back which represents my birth name and then the name i always go by ( i like say my alias ha ha). The Ribbon is in the form of a fancy G for my last name.
I used a similar design in art 110 i think it was and i really liked it so here it is again ... a little tweaked .

self portrait

I also work with Gimp for the fun of it so i figure i might as well load up the images i do for fun when I cant access Photoshop. This is a self portrait that I made for my deviant art avatar (that sounds so dorky) but for those who don't know deviant art is basically an art sharing site where you can load up the work you do and others can view it and comment on it.... hmmm now that i think about that sounds just like this.... but its kinda different. In this image i basically just used a bunch of features under the colour tab and added a gradient background, some lighting a bit of colour here and there...the photo was one i found on my computer that i took a short while ago

you might need this

I guess it would help to see the original image too ( see below) so here it is... the flamingo at the zoo

Electric Bird

So here it is the first official out of class assignment. Using a picture that we have taken , we must render it with contrasting colour, work with layers etc etc... This past summer i went to the zoo for the millionth time ( i really only go to see the baby monkeys, the giraffes and the elephants... okay maybe the hippo too) and i came upon these amazingly bright pink flamingos that were posing so nicely for my camera. So i turned this beautiful flamingo into this bright exotic night bird. I added in some grasses that appear to glow as well ( filters are great!) and it makes it look like this bird is putting electricity into everything that touches the water...how fun!

Stardust Reduced

This again is the same...or i guess similar image as above but it has been reduced to 3" X 3" and then cropped to focus on a smaller part of the image and has a resolution of 300

Stardust Again

This is the exact same image as above. The only difference is that the resolution has been changed from 300 to 72 dpi which is used for the web.

Stardust

This is the first of three images done in class today. the assignment was to basically play around with the dimensions of the image you created. I made this abstract image of what turned out to look like cut up stars overlapping each other. I added some black lines to give a Mondrian kind of look ( if i spelled that right). this image is 6" X 6" with as resolution of 300 I think it looks like something from a story book :)

desert fish

This is my first assignment in Computer art. The main idea was to put two images together to creating something fun. ( however I added one extra image ... the crab... to make it a little more fun). I used text to create the bubbles and made the fish pink instead of orange because I thought it looked more exciting. I love having opposites together like the desert and a gold fish... or in this case a hot pink fish!
